Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Licensed continuously since 1982
What is your primary product or service?
My professional expertise, delivered through diagnosing the risks, dreams, and goals of my clients, then providing effective tools to achieve the best interests of each client. We often use insurance related solutions and always use or devise strategies, methods, and solutions appropriate for each client, whether they be individuals, families, churches, business owners, employees, municipalities, or civic or professional organizations.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Early in life, I've seen businesses and families experience catastrophic losses because their planning for protection, growth, and assurance of their income was lacking.
For example, when I was a child, my dad's business burned to the ground due to the negligence of an employee, and his insurance protection was inadequate. Due to rapid growth of his business, the fire insurance wasn't up to date, and he had no business overhead protection, personal disablity income replacement, or affordable Legal Services plan in place. The result was bankruptcy and serious financial difficulties for many years to come. Even though he was a generous, talented, intelligent man with an excellent work ethic and a great reputation for taking care of his customers, the lives of everyone in his family were drastically changed.
Even though he developed his business well in the early days by hard work and excellent service to his growing customer base, he suffered great loss because there wasn't a comprehensive plan in place to protect his business and family against loss.
I determined that I would strive to protect others from such losses, and to do everything possible to enhance the lives of my clients.
My education includes:
Fairley High School, Memphis, TN; Union University, Jackson, TN; Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX; Extension from The American College, Bryn Mawr, PA; and numerous other seminars, workshops, and mentoring advantages.
My background includes nine years service as an itinerant speaker, singer, and leader, as well as a Southern Baptist convention certified Church Growth Consultant.
I've served and continue to serve local churches in TX, TN, AR, NM and MS as short term missionary, pastor, youth minister, education minister, and music minister since 1972. Income from my business allows me to serve churches that can't afford to support a seminary trained minister full-time. I've served in similar capacities for community-wide religious events, pastor's conferences, programs, association meetings, and other special meetings, workshops, and occasions in TX, TN, NC, MI, AR, NM, GA, KS, & Tanzania.
I've spoken to Insurance professional groups and taught professional workshops etc. in TN, MS, TX, MI, and elsewhere.
I've written articles for publication in print and web sites for businesses and organizations in CA, FL, TN, LA, Great Britain, & Australia.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
My broad and deep training and experience as an educator, speaker, writer, and trainer includes deep diagnostic skills so that I can best learn and assess what my current and future clients want and need.
While my business needs sales just like any other business, my primary focus is to provide a high level of dedication and excellent, professional, caring service so that my customers will want to become and continue to be long term clients. Sales come when my clients realize the worth of my work for them.
As Benjamin Franklin said: "He who teaches is twice taught." I've found this to be true as I've taught laypeople, professionals, salespeople, pastors, and community leaders in 28 States and in Africa how to improve their own lives by providing intelligent, effective, compassionate service to others.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Like many seasoned professionals, after using "office space" in East Memphis TN and in Bartlett, TN for a number of years, I moved my professional practice to a well equipped office in my home several years ago.
I learned that a large number of clients preferred to meet me in a coffee shop, at their business or home, or just to conduct business over the phone and Internet. I've also advised other insurance professionals in the same way for many years.
There is also a number of long-standing clients (who refer me to others) that I've never seen face-to-face, since they live and work hundreds of miles away. Our relationships are healthy and friendly. Business is always conducted in their best interests. That's why they stay with me even though thousands of other salespeople are physically closer to them.
Yes, I am expanding. I've done business in TN, MS, AR, KY, VA, WA, IL, GA, LA, TX, MO, MI, OH, and elsewhere. As of January 2016, I also have representatives under contract and clients in Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Illinois, Kentucky, and growing.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones."
Philippians 2:4 (NKJV) "Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others."
